Tenacity

Bad rolls happen. At least now they leave something behind.
Turn Failed Rolls Into Future Success
Tenacity gives players a small reward when the dice turn against them, called Motes of Tenacity (or Motes for short!). Fail a roll, gain a Mote of Tenacity, and spend it later to push a later roll into a success. It keeps bad luck from discouraging players without removing the tension of failure.
Earn Tenacity on Failure
Configure exactly when Motes are awarded. Keep it simple with natural 1s only, DC-detected (where supported), or leave it entirely in the GM's hands.
Concentration saves, death saves, and NPC participation are all optional, so you can tune the system to fit your table.
Spend After the Roll
Tenacity is spent after seeing the result, not before. If the target DC is known, the dialog shows exactly how many Motes are needed to succeed.
Prefer a little uncertainty? Hide the required amount and let players decide whether or not to gamble.
Optional refunds and per-roll spending caps help keep things fair and controlled.

Rules-Friendly by Design
Raising a roll does not change the original die result. A missed attack pushed above AC becomes a normal hit, while natural 20s still behave exactly like critical hits should.
Tenacity improves outcomes without rewriting the underlying rules.
No Spending on the Roll That Earned It
Motes gained from a failed roll cannot immediately be spent on that same roll. Failure still matters in the moment, while giving players something to work with later.

Integrated Character Sheet Tracking
A dedicated Tenacity badge appears beside Inspiration on supported character sheets for easy access during play.
In edit mode, GMs and players can manually adjust how many Motes they have using simple + and - controls.
Limits, Resets, and Optional Conversion
By default, characters can hold up to five Motes of Tenacity at a time, preventing long-term hoarding.
Pools reset on long rest, with an optional rule allowing a full pool to convert into Heroic Inspiration for groups that want a stronger long-term reward.
