Game Designer and Writer
We are looking for a motivated and talented creator to join our team as a full-time Game Designer and Game Writer. In this role you will work with our team of incredibly talented artists, developers, writers, and designers to create Ember, a revolutionary digital roleplaying campaign setting, and Crucible, an innovative digital roleplaying game system. Both of these products are designed and created exclusively for digital play on Foundry Virtual Tabletop, challenging you to innovate with designs that honor TTRPG tradition while inventing new paradigms for play.
Some further details about this position include:
- This position is full time and fully remote. We can hire either within the United States or internationally.
- This role is not tied to the delivery of a specific product and is a long-term position.
- Our creative team is small, but powerful. We currently have 8 full-time employees working on this project alongside a number of part-time contractors.
- We do not require any specific degree or certification, we will assess candidates based on their demonstrated capabilities and portfolio of work.
Baseline Requirements
Candidates for the role must satisfy the following expectations:
- English fluency with a rich vocabulary and talent for writing evocative prose that draws readers into an imaginative fantasy world.
- Professional game design experience or a demonstrated passion for indie game system or digital game design.
- A noteworthy portfolio with contributions towards high-quality published roleplaying games or related products.
- Deep familiarity with Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition and other game systems with a diversity of mechanics and gameplay conventions.
- Effective organization and management skills. As a game designer on this team you will be partially-responsible for managing the collaboration with artists, musicians, cartographers, and developers whose work intersects with your content.
- The hustle and ownership to pursue the thread of development wherever required to design and deliver a remarkable quality of product.
- A commitment to human creativity without using generative AI to author any portion of delivered work.
Preferred Attributes
When evaluating candidates for this role we will prefer applicants with some of the following attributes:
- Personal experience playing TTRPGs online.
- Deep familiarity with Foundry Virtual Tabletop.
- Experience creating TTRPG content as part of a small team or as a solo creator where it was required for you to perform a multitude of functions.
- Familiarity with web development paradigms like HTML, CSS, Javascript, and more.
- Demonstrated breadth and versatility in creative capabilities and media formats in addition to writing.
