Mindful Encounters

Initiative is for fights. Exploration gets a budget.

Explore in Turns, Not Initiative

Mindful Encounters runs dungeon exploration as simultaneous, budgeted turns, no initiative required. Each token gets a movement budget, moves until it runs out, then clicks Done. When everyone is Done, the world clock jumps ahead one dungeon turn and the budgets refill. Try to push past your budget and the module either cancels the move or stops the token right at the line.

Where the Budget Comes From

A token's budget can follow its system speed, a multiplier of that speed, or a flat number you set on the token itself. Running something other than the default system? Hand Mindful Encounters the data path to your actor's speed and it reads from there instead.

Veto or Clamp

Two ways to handle a move that runs long. Veto cancels it outright. Clamp lets the token travel as far as the budget allows and stops it there, snapped cleanly to the grid.

Actions, Not Just Steps

A turn holds more than movement. Each token can log a few dungeon actions per turn, up to a limit you choose, for searching a room or listening at a door or whatever your table needs to track. The count clears every turn, and the GM can walk it back if a click goes wrong.

Overland Mode

Heading out to the world map? Flip a scene into Overland mode and the party shares one movement budget instead of tracking it token by token, which is exactly what a hexcrawl wants. Everyone still takes their own actions. You decide which tokens draw from the pool, and a hidden or hostile token never drains it behind the scenes.

The Party Panel

One panel lists the scene's tokens, sorted into Players, NPCs, and Hidden, each with a budget bar and a Done toggle. From there the GM can pull a token in or out of the turn, reset everything, or push the clock forward without waiting on stragglers.

What Players Can See

Hidden and hostile tokens stay off the players' panel entirely, so a monster creeping down the corridor stays a secret. A token's budget readout shows only to players who own it, can observe it, or see it as friendly.

The Clock Keeps Itself

Close out a turn and the world clock jumps ahead by whatever interval you set, and a one-line note drops into chat.

Undo and Safety Nets

Misjudged a move? A keybind rewinds a token's last step and hands the budget back. Switch on reconciliation and the GM gets a quiet warning whenever a token ends a turn over budget. And the moment real combat starts, the whole system steps aside until the fight is done.

Made to Fit Your Table

Mindful Encounters runs on any game system and does nothing until you switch it on for a scene. Count vertical movement against the budget or leave it out. Hold the GM to the same limits or let them roam free. Every threshold lives on one settings page.
