Wayfinder Auto-Grid
Visual Grid Alignment Tool aligning Foundry's grid to the map you provide. Draw a box over three grid squares, or drop a triangle over three adjacent hex cells, and Auto-Grid works out the cell size and the background offset, animates the result so you can watch it land, and commits.
Square grids and all four Foundry hex variants. The module won't work until a square or hex grid is selected in scene settings.
Requires: Wayfinder Core.
wayfinder-auto-grid· v1.1.0 · Foundry VTT v13+ (verified 14.365) · Free · System-agnostic (tested on PF2e 8.4.0 & D&D 5e 5.3.3)

Installation
Classic manifest install:
- In Foundry, open Add-on Modules → Install Module.
- Paste this into the Manifest URL field:
https://wayfindermodules.com/releases/wayfinder-auto-grid/manifest - Click Install.
Install Wayfinder Core the same way first. Every module is listed at wayfindermodules.com.
Using it
Square grids
- Open the tool from the Wayfinder scene controls, or from the Grid tab in Scene Configuration.
- Click Draw 3×3 Box, then drag a rectangle over exactly three grid squares wide and three tall on your map image.
- A live readout under the box shows the resulting cell size as you drag. If you know your map's grid size, aim for that exact number (
256.0, say). - Release. The grid animates into place and commits.
- If the map's own grid turns out to be fractional, an Auto-Rescale prompt appears once the animation lands — see below.
You can't pan while the draw is armed, so zoom and position the map beforehand. Right-click or press Escape to cancel.
Hex grids
- Open the tool. The button reads Place Tri-Hex when a hex scene is active.
- Click it to summon a 3-hex triangle overlay at the centre of the scene.
- Scroll to resize, drag to position it over any three adjacent cells, then click to confirm.
- Right-click or Escape cancels without committing.
The triangle arranges itself for your grid's orientation.
Auto Mode (Square & Hex)
-
Open the tool. Click Auto
-
If the map's grid is prominent enough, the scale/offset/gridsize will be automatically adjusted.
How the alignment works
On a square grid, one gesture gives you both the size and the offset.
Hex grids cover all four Foundry layouts, pointy-top and flat-top, odd and even. The triangle measures across three cells at once.
Plain scroll resizes in 5px steps. Shift+scroll drops to 1px, which is how you land on an exact value like 150.
Preview and cancellation
No scene data is touched until you confirm. Cancel at any stage, by right-click, Escape, or closing the window mid-selection.
Sizes outside the 10–500px window are rejected.
Where is it located
A button in the Wayfinder scene controls group, GM-only, and a button in the Grid tab of Scene Configuration, placed directly after the Grid Size field. The Scene Config helper text and the window's action button both switch between square and hex wording based on the scene's actual grid type.
Launching from Scene Config while you're viewing a different scene warns you to view that scene first, rather than aligning the wrong map.
Scene Configuration minimizes when you launch the tool, and the tool minimizes while you draw.
The aligner window follows the active Wayfinder theme.
Status display
The tool window shows the scene's current grid size and current background offset, updated live.
