Stylish Action HUD
Stop digging through sheets. Keep the table focused on the action.
Stylish Action HUD adds a party HUD and action menu overlay to Foundry VTT. Players can see important character resources, conditions, portraits, and quick actions without keeping character sheets open, while GMs can manage the party roster, visual style, action menu, and streaming overlay from one configuration panel.
The module works as a ready-made HUD for D&D 5e and Pathfinder 2e. Other systems can use custom tracked attributes, actor groups, manual action menus, macros, drag-and-drop setup, and generic data-path tracking.
Key Features
Party HUD Cards
-
Live party overview: Show selected actors as themed HUD cards with HP, AC, shields, spell slots, resources, custom counters, conditions, effects, and other tracked values.
-
Custom tracking: Add bars, numbers, dots, and badges from system data paths. Each tracked attribute can have its own label, color, font sizes, visibility rules, qualitative display, and image overrides.
-
Quick value editing: Click editable resources from the HUD to update HP, spell slots, item uses, focus points, or other supported values without opening the sheet.
-
Rollable stats: Click supported stats directly from the HUD. Native adapters cover D&D 5e checks, saves, skills, and initiative, plus PF2e saves, skills, Perception, and initiative.
-
HP change popups: Damage and healing can appear as floating numbers on the card, with Reduce Motion and hit-feedback options for players who prefer calmer visuals.
-
Qualitative HP display: Hide exact numbers from non-owners and show labels such as Healthy, Wounded, Bloodied, Critical, or custom tier names instead.
-
Quick notes: Hover a card to open a note field. GM notes are stored on the actor; player notes are private per user.
-
Roster tools: Right-click actors in the Actor Directory to add or remove them from the HUD, right-click HUD cards to remove them, and save/load actor groups for fast party swaps.
-
Scene-friendly NPCs: Linked Friendly NPC tokens on the current scene can appear automatically as HUD cards, then refresh when scenes or tokens change.
-
Display filters: Show all roster cards, owner-only cards, online-player cards, combat-only HUDs, or selected-token-only cards.
Action Menu
-
Floating action access: Open attacks, spells, feats, actions, utility entries, inventory, macros, and sheet shortcuts from a themed action menu tied to the selected actor.
-
D&D 5e support: Weapons, spells, item spells, features, saves, skills, checks, initiative, rest actions, equipment state, ammunition display, and range information can be shown and used from the HUD.
-
Pathfinder 2e support: Strikes, spells, actions, feats, utility rolls, inventory, toggles, Hero Points, focus resources, spontaneous heightening, equipment management, alternate speeds, and ammunition tools are supported through the PF2e adapter.
-
Generic system support: For systems without a native adapter, drag items or macros into custom categories and tabs to build a usable action menu manually.
-
Custom menu builder: Create categories, side tabs, quick slots, common macro sections, actor-specific visibility rules, and combat visibility rules.
-
Per-tab visibility: Categories and sub-tabs can be shown for all actors, only selected actors/types, excluded actors/types, combat only, hidden in combat, or never shown.
-
End turn button: During combat, actors can end their turn directly from the action menu when they have permission.
-
Tooltips and search: The action menu includes search, rich item tooltips, scrollable tooltip content, and tooltip position options.
Portraits, Visual States, and Voice
-
Portrait variants: Register multiple portrait variants per actor with labels, image paths, scale, and X/Y offsets. Click the HUD portrait to switch expressions quickly.
-
Speaking portraits: Portrait variants and dynamic portrait rules can define a separate speaking image while voice activity is active.
-
Voice Activity Indicator: Optional microphone detection highlights the HUD card of a speaking player with that player's chosen glow color.
-
Dynamic image rules: Change portraits, card backgrounds, portrait frames, or badge visuals based on tracked values or active status effects.
-
Status effect visuals: Configure filters, overlays, tint, blend modes, and animations for conditions such as dead, prone, frightened, poisoned, stunned, burning, or custom IDs.
-
Compact mode: Collapse cards into portrait thumbnails and expand on hover. Cards can use global compact settings or per-actor overrides.
Themes, Layout, and Customization
-
Six built-in visual themes: Iron & Blood, Glass, Epic Fantasy, Cyberpunk, Medieval, and Custom.
-
Full Custom theme: Build your own HUD style with portrait layers, card background layers, action menu layers, bar/dot/number images, button frames, colors, fonts, blend modes, opacity, rotation, and z-index controls.
-
Per-actor overrides: Individual actors can override card format, card size, card scale, portrait size, portrait clipping, name placement, tracked attribute placement, visual effects, and layout values.
-
Layout edit mode: Move cards and the action menu in Free Mode, multi-select cards, group drag, snap to grid, disable snapping for fine placement, align selected cards, distribute spacing, select all, and bring offscreen cards back into view.
-
Configuration presets: Save and load full HUD configurations as named presets, export/import preset files, and preserve macro references where possible.
-
Actor presets: Save world or personal actor presets for style, layout, tracked attributes, and image rules.
-
Theme export/import: Export Custom theme settings and bundled images as a zip file, then import them into another world.
-
Role-based editing: GMs can choose the minimum user role required to edit tracking, style/layout, and action menu settings.
GM, Player, and Streaming Tools
-
Client-side preferences: Players can hide the HUD locally, set personal layout overrides, use personal actor style overrides, reduce motion, change tooltip position, and choose their voice indicator color.
-
GM broadcast toggle: GMs can show or hide the Party HUD and Action Menu for all connected players at once.
-
Keyboard shortcuts: Shift+H toggles the HUD, Shift+P toggles the Party HUD, Shift+M toggles the Action Menu, Shift+C toggles compact mode, and Shift+G toggles HUD broadcast for GMs.
-
OBS overlay links: Generate actor-specific HUD overlay URLs from actor sheets for OBS Browser Source. Overlay links preserve actor parameters through the Foundry login flow.
-
Broadcast account mode: GMs can designate a non-GM Foundry user as a broadcast account. When that user logs in, overlay mode activates automatically and can show a default actor or all tracked actors.
-
Module hooks and adapter API: Other modules or systems can register defaults, themes, system adapters, action menu categories, and custom tooltip behavior.
