RPGX Loot Crate
RPGX Loot Crate adds a full shared inventory economy to your Foundry VTT table. Manage shared party wealth across named chests, negotiate live item trades between characters and NPCs, and run an AI-assisted crafting queue that ties directly into your long rest cycle. The free tier installs and works immediately with no account, no key, and no additional software. Pro features unlock through RPGX Proton, the local AI companion for Foundry VTT.
Fully system agnostic. Works with D&D 5E, Pathfinder, Shadowrun, homebrew systems, and anything else running in Foundry. Currency types, labels, and actor data paths are all configurable to match your game.
Party Loot Crates
Create named shared containers that your whole party can access. Each crate holds any items you drop into it and tracks its own currency bank across all your configured denominations. Players drag items directly from a crate onto their actor sheet to pick them up, and every transaction posts a public chat card so the whole table knows what was taken and from where.
- Create up to 3 shared loot crates per world on the free tier, unlimited on Pro
- Add and remove items from any crate with drag and drop
- Click any item to open its full item sheet without leaving the crate
- Assign crate ownership per character so access is controlled
- Rename crates and manage owners directly from the crate view
- Each crate carries its own party bank with deposit and withdrawal support
- GMs can set exact bank balances directly without going through a character
- All pickups, deposits, and withdrawals post to the Foundry chat log automatically
Live Item Trading
Players can initiate a real-time trade with any character or NPC in the current scene. Both sides see each other's offers update live as items are added or removed. Neither side commits to anything until both parties have confirmed their offer, and either side can pull back and adjust at any time before the final accept.
- Initiate a trade with any actor in the active scene, including GM-controlled NPCs
- Both parties see live offer updates as the trade is negotiated
- Free tier supports up to 3 items per side per trade
- Pro tier removes the item cap entirely and adds currency to the offer
- Both parties must confirm before the trade executes
- Either side can unconfirm and revise their offer right up until the final accept
- Completed trades post a public chat card confirming what was exchanged
AI-Assisted Item Crafting
The crafting system gives players a way to submit requests for custom items using materials and currency from their inventory. The GM reviews each request, sets the skill requirements, and decides how many long rests the craft will take. Progress advances automatically as characters rest, and when the craft is complete the GM can generate the finished item with AI or create it manually.
This feature requires RPGX Proton and an active Patreon subscription.
Player workflow:
- Submit a craft request with a description of what you are trying to make
- Drag materials from your inventory into the request and add any currency being spent
- Choose a target item type if you have something specific in mind
- Cancel at any time before approval to get all materials and currency back
GM workflow:
- Receive a notification when a player submits a new craft request
- Review the materials, set skill check requirements, and set the number of rests required
- Approve to begin the crafting queue, or reject to return everything to the player
- When the craft is complete, open the award dialog to generate or create the item
- Edit the AI-generated name and description before awarding if needed
- Re-generate the item as many times as needed before committing
- Drag the finished item onto the player's actor sheet to award it
- A public chat card is posted to the table confirming the award
- Skip AI generation entirely and create the item manually at any time
AI generation context:
- The AI uses the materials submitted, the GP value invested, and the character's level
- Game System and Campaign Genre fields in module settings shape the output
- Genre governs all narrative content: tone, aesthetics, item names, and descriptions
- Game System governs mechanical stats and formatting only
- Genre always takes priority over the game system for descriptive and flavour output
- If your world knowledge base is active in RPGX Proton, world lore is included in the generation
Currency Configuration
Loot Crate does not assume any currency system. You define your own denominations with custom labels, abbreviations, and the exact actor data path each one maps to. The configuration panel auto-detects numeric fields on your existing actors and suggests them as you type, so you rarely have to look anything up manually.
- Define any number of currency denominations with your own labels and abbreviations
- Map each denomination to its exact path on the actor data model
- Auto-detection suggests valid paths from your existing actors
- Defaults to standard D&D 5E denominations out of the box
- Works with D&D, Pathfinder, sci-fi credits, homebrew coinage, or anything else
Game System and Campaign Genre
Two settings in the module configuration let you describe your table to the AI: the game system your campaign runs on, and the genre or mood of your setting. These fields are used during AI item generation to make crafted items feel native to your world rather than generic.
- Game System: the rule system your game uses, for example, D&D 5E (2024), Pathfinder 2E, Shadowrun 6E, or Homebrew. Governs mechanical stat formatting in generated items.
- Campaign Genre: the mood and setting of your campaign, for example, Dark Fantasy, Futuristic Cyberpunk, Pirate Adventure, or Modern Horror. Governs all narrative content in generated items.
- If RPGX AI Assistant is also installed, these fields are read automatically from its settings. No duplicate configuration needed.
RPGX Proton Integration
RPGX Proton is a free Windows desktop application that bundles a local Ollama instance and a RAG knowledge server. It is the AI engine behind the entire RPGX Toolbelt suite. Pro features in Loot Crate require Proton running on the GM's machine with an active Patreon subscription.
- Download Proton free at rpgxstudios.com. No separate Ollama install required.
- Enter your Proton RAG Auth Token in Loot Crate's module settings to unlock Pro features
- If RPGX AI Assistant is installed, the token is shared automatically across all RPGX modules
- For remote Foundry setups, use RPGX AI Bridge to relay AI traffic from your local Proton install
- All AI inference runs locally on your hardware. No data is sent to external servers.
Supported AI model tiers:
- Lite: phi4-mini, approximately 4 to 6 GB RAM
- Standard (default): phi4, approximately 8 to 12 GB RAM
