What It Is
RPGX Bypass is a Foundry VTT module that turns abstract "roll to pick the lock" or "roll to hack the terminal" moments into interactive mini-games your players actually play. Instead of a single die roll deciding the outcome, players work through a lockpicking puzzle, crack a password, defuse a bomb, or disarm a trap in real time, while the GM watches everything happen live and always has the final say on pass or fail.
Every puzzle can be dropped onto a door or a token in seconds. When a player interacts with it, a puzzle dialog opens for them, a live session opens on the GM's side, and the GM can reveal hints, remove wrong answers, trigger a failure, or outright bypass the puzzle at any time. Nothing auto-resolves behind the GM's back, the GM Panel is always the last word.
The module is system-agnostic, so it works the same whether you're running dnd5e, Call of Cthulhu, Vampire the Masquerade, or your own homebrew system, and it ships with a consistent teal-accented UI shared across the whole RPGX Toolbelt suite.
What It Does
- Turns any door or token into a triggerable puzzle, using patched token permissions so any GM-configured NPC can host a puzzle without messing with ownership settings
- Opens a real-time GM session the moment a player engages a puzzle, with live state updates (failures, progress, timers) streamed to the GM Panel
- Gives the GM direct override tools at all times, including reveal hint, remove wrong answers, trigger failure, and instant solve
- Posts chat log entries when a puzzle opens and when it resolves, so the table has a record of what happened
- Lets the GM manage every puzzle from a single flat list in the Bypass Manager, with color-coded icons per puzzle type
- Automatically deactivates a puzzle once it is solved, so it will not re-trigger
- Supports an "Invisible Token" option that keeps a token fully interactive while its texture stays hidden from players
The Ten Puzzle Types
- Password – type-to-guess password entry
- Lockpick – four-tumbler lockpicking, inspired by classic pin-tumbler mechanics
- Keypad – four-digit PIN entry
- Dial Lock – rotational combination dial with a speed-warning threshold
- Terminal Hacking – full multi-phase boot sequence, word-guessing hack with a 120-word themed pool, and an in-terminal journal viewer for unlocked lore
- Bomb Defuse – triple-combo wire and key defuse game with a chain log, a hidden instant-win combo, and a real countdown timer
- Trap Disarm – Operation-style component removal, tuned as a one-shot, no-retry challenge
- Memory Match – card-matching minigame with five fully themed art sets (Dark Fantasy, Technica, Vampire the Masquerade, Call of Cthulhu, Space)
- Pressure Plate Trap – one-shot trap variant
- Observations – a flexible, GM-adjudicated investigation puzzle that reveals a dossier card with custom notes and an optional image, kept generic so it fits any creature or clue
Free Tier
Everything in RPGX Bypass is available to every GM for free. All ten puzzle types, the full Bypass Manager, the GM Panel, chat logging, and every mechanic described above work out of the box with no purchase required.
The only free-tier limit is a soft cap of 3 active puzzles at once. This is a quantity limit, not a feature lock, you are never blocked from a puzzle type or a category, you simply need an active Pro subscription to run more than three puzzles simultaneously across your game.
Pro Tier
Unlocking Pro removes the active puzzle cap, letting you run as many simultaneous puzzles as your game needs, with no limit on how many doors, tokens, terminals, traps, or bombs are live at once.
How to Unlock Pro
Pro access runs through two pieces working together:
- Subscribe on Patreon. Pro tier is tied to an active Patreon subscription through the RPGX Studios Patreon page.
- Install and run RPGX Proton. Proton is the companion desktop app that validates your Patreon subscription and unlocks Pro features inside Foundry. Once Proton confirms your subscription is active, RPGX Bypass automatically recognizes your Pro status.
If you already have RPGX AI Assistant installed and authenticated with Proton, Bypass will share that same authentication token automatically, so there is no need to log in twice.
