Hags of Ruin | New 5e Monsters

Hags of Ruin is a monster supplement for 5e that presents hags not as isolated swamp crones or recycled spellcasters, but as structured manifestations of tragic emotion. Instead of relying on a single generic hag stat block, this book provides six complete and escalating emotional triads: Hunger, Grief, Anger, Envy, Despair, and Desire—each expressed through three distinct roles: the Voice, the Maw, and the Keeper.

These are not covens. They are emotional fractures made manifest.

The intent of this product is thematic escalation and structured corruption. Each triad embodies a specific form of ruin and functions as a unified threat. The Voice tempts, manipulates, and destabilizes. The Maw devastates and consumes. The Keeper anchors the manifestation and prevents its collapse. When united, each triad activates a shared Triad of Ruin feature that intensifies its emotional domain and reshapes the battlefield.

Geography, cosmology, and origin are intentionally undefined. These stat blocks can represent village-level tragedy, noble downfall, religious collapse, or kingdom-scale obsession. They do not replace traditional hags—they expand them, offering structure and emotional identity where there was once only folklore menace.

Whether these manifestations are rare catastrophes or recurring consequences of mortal failure is left entirely in the GM’s hands.

Hunger Triad

Voice of Hunger (CR 1): Whispers of scarcity and temptation who coaxes desperate bargains for sustenance and survival.

Maw of Hunger (CR 1): Gaunt devourer that feeds on flesh and vitality, growing stronger as others starve.

Keeper of Hunger (CR 1): Withered sentinel who spoils food, withers crops, and prevents relief from taking hold.

Grief Triad

Voice of Grief (CR 3): Soft-spoken mourner who weaponizes memory and loss, drawing the living into sorrowful fixation.

Maw of Grief (CR 3): Wailing horror that lashes out with grief made tangible, turning mourning into harm.

Keeper of Grief (CR 3): Silent matron who binds areas in oppressive remembrance and suppresses hope.

Anger Triad

Voice of Anger (CR 5): Incites rage and vengeance, turning allies against one another with sharpened provocation.

Maw of Anger (CR 5): Brutal embodiment of wrath who escalates violence wherever blood is spilled.

Keeper of Anger (CR 5): Hardened anchor of fury who prevents retreat and sustains prolonged conflict.

Envy Triad

Voice of Envy (CR 7): Sows suspicion and rivalry, whispering of what others possess and what should be taken.

Maw of Envy (CR 7): Covetous predator who steals strength, status, or advantage from its foes.

Keeper of Envy (CR 7): Calculating guardian who fortifies betrayal and fractures alliances at critical moments.

Despair Triad

Voice of Despair (CR 9): Extinguishes resolve, convincing even heroes that resistance is futile.

Maw of Despair (CR 9): Crushing force of hopelessness that drains vitality and the will to fight.

Keeper of Despair (CR 9): Anchors oppressive gloom, suppressing healing, inspiration, and recovery.

Desire Triad

Voice of Desire (CR 11): Tempts with obsession and fixation, bending loyalty and devotion toward ruin.
