Purpose
Want to make your town feel more alive? Want NPCs to move around, interact, and talk? Want scenes to play automatically while you narrate, so you can focus on storytelling instead of fumbling with controls?
Journal Cues will help!
Journal Cues adds clickable journal-based cues for Foundry VTT. It allows GMs to record, replay, and reset scene actions from journal entries, making it easier to prepare repeatable table moments and trigger scene behavior from organized notes.
The module is intended for GMs who use journals as session prep, scene scripting, or reusable control panels. It is free to use and publicly available. Optional support links may be provided through the project page, but the module itself is not premium content and is not behind a paywall.
Setup
- You install the module and activate it.
- Then click under Token Controls (left side) there is a new button called Journal Cues (looks like a waypoint icon).
- Click on Add new Cue
- Start recording what you want to do.
Example
What will it record?
- Basic Token movement
- Health points
- Spells/Items
- Comments (via /ic in chat)
- Possibly more but usually it's baked into Foundry Core (e.g., actor's settings)
What else can it do?
- Restore. Have tokens back to their original state
- Play it once or multiple times (you can even loop it)
- Set delays in between actions
- Have multiple Cues running
- Copy a JOURNAL friendly link and paste it into your journal so it becomes a QUICK link.
