Grid Crafter
Minecraft-style crafting for Foundry VTT. Players place items on a 3×3 grid, press Craft and get a new item. Works with any game system.
This page is a short overview. The full documentation is in the GitHub repository.
What it does
- Players drag items from their character sheet onto the grid and press Craft. The ingredients are removed from the sheet and the result is added to it.
- The GM writes the recipes. A recipe can be shaped (positions matter, but it still works anywhere on the grid or mirrored) or shapeless (only the items matter).
- Two visual themes, Forge and Arcane, with animations and sounds. The GM can replace the sounds.
- Each player has a recipe book. Recipes they have already crafted are saved there and can be placed on the grid with one click.
- The GM can share a recipe with the players. They see the pattern, but not what it makes.
- Optional chance to lose the materials on a failed craft, set for the whole world or per recipe.
- Every attempt is posted to chat.
- Slot and weight limits are respected. If the result does not fit in the inventory, nothing is spent.
- With Canvas Loot you can drag the crafted item straight onto the map.
- Other modules can add their own recipe packs through the API.
How to use
GM: creating recipes
- Open the Items directory and click Recipes (or run
GridCrafter.recipes()in a macro). - Click New Recipe. Drag the ingredients onto the grid and the resulting item onto the circle on the right.
- Choose Shaped or Shapeless, how many items one craft makes, and the chance to lose materials on failure.
- Save.
To show a recipe to the players, open it and click Share Recipe.
GM: settings
Go to Game Settings → Configure Settings → Grid Crafter:
- Craftable Item Types: which item types can go on the grid. If none is selected, all types are allowed.
- Crafting Sounds: volume and sounds for crafting, success, failure and shared recipes. Leave a sound empty to use the one from the theme.
- Visual Theme: Forge or Arcane, for everyone at the table.
- Quantity Path: where your system stores an item's quantity, for example
system.quantity. - Failure: Chance to Lose Materials: the world default. Each recipe can override it.
Players: crafting
- Your user needs an assigned character (User Configuration → Character). Crafting uses that character's inventory.
- Open the Items directory and click Forge (or run
GridCrafter.forge()in a macro). - Drag items from your character sheet onto the grid. Right-click a cell to empty it.
- Press Craft.
If you already know a recipe, click it in your Recipe Book and the grid is filled from your inventory. A greyed-out recipe means you are missing an ingredient.
