Ephemera - Parchment, Press & Book
Reimagine your Journals.
Has your campaign ever called for something like this?
- A player needs to piece together the truth from a defaced document.
- An NPC slips a private letter into the adventurer's hands.
- The morning paper hits the stands, and its headline hints at something that went very wrong last night.
- An old, weathered book is placed on the table — the players crack it open and search it page by page for clues.
If you want these moments to feel like more than plain Journal text — closer to handouts your players can inspect, present, and remember — Ephemera brings that layer of immersion to your campaign.
What is EPPB?
Ephemera - Parchment, Press & Book (EPPB) is a focused, easy-to-use module for Foundry VTT that turns your Journals into crafted in-world documents.
With EPPB, you can quickly create:
- Newspapers
- Letters
- Books
- Clue documents with GM-controlled redactions and reveals
The module ships with templates, paper textures, fonts, and layout styles — so you don't have to design everything from scratch. Pick a starting point, add your content, and build handouts, notices, broadsheets, and books that feel like they belong in your world.

Letters & Newspapers

EPPB comes with a range of newspaper and letter templates out of the box. You don't need to wrestle with layout — just open the workbench, pick a template, drop in your text, headlines, and images, and you've got a handout ready to show your players.
Once it's done, hit the button in the top-right corner and present it directly to your players. Whether it's a new notice pinned outside the tavern, an invitation from a noble house, or a morning edition reporting last night's disaster — it all shows up naturally in your game.
Books
Books are one of the most immersive features in EPPB.
Using a 3D book model, what your players see isn't just a flat page of text — it's a book they can open, turn through, and read page by page. You can customize the book's color, title, finish, and appearance to match the tone of your campaign.
Future updates will continue to expand customization options, turning books into even more complete storytelling props for your table.
Exploration & Reveal

Exploration is where EPPB can make a Journal feel less like a reference page and more like a clue on the table.
Picture this: your players recover a document that has been deliberately defaced. Key lines are covered by dark smears, and the party needs to investigate, pass a check, or push the story forward before the hidden information should come to light.
EPPB keeps that flow simple and GM-controlled. Paint over the key detail, show the document to your players, and when the moment is right, hide the smear to reveal the text underneath.
The interaction stays light, but the moment feels different: the document can change in front of the table as the mystery opens up.
Early Access & What's Next
EPPB is currently in early access
As a The Architect tier member, you can get your hands on the module now and help shape it with your feedback. The Originator tier members will gain access once the early testing window closes — estimated at roughly 1–2 week
EPPB will continue to grow — more templates, more book styles, more customization, and more tools built for narrative exploration. The goal is straightforward: make documents in Foundry VTT feel more like things that exist inside your world
