The lords of Old Dunholm hold dominion over a handful of villages, acres of dark woodlands and rocky hills. Compared to the surrounding baronies, they are not particularly wealthy or influential. Their army is small, yet every general at the Court knows who the barons of Dunholm are. Their castle overlooks the royal road leading to the kingdom’s western border. Its barren, untamed soil was fertilized by countless battles amidst the swamps and dales. Not an decade passes without armies clashing near Dunholm. Not a day goes by without a messenger hastily riding through the country. Not a night settles without some strange beast prowling its foreboding woods, looking for a traveler to ambush. Yet not a soul transits through Old Dunholm unknown to the old baron. Perched on his lonesome rock, his impregnable dungeon oversees everything, over the hills, over the forests, over the horizon. His many spies do the rest. Never travel through Old Dunholm without paying homage to the baron. He is already waiting for you.
