Battle Replay

An Add-on Module for Foundry Virtual Tabletop

Author: Lontra the Wizard Project: Source Foundry Versions 13.350+ (Verified 13.351) Last Updated 2 days, 9 hours ago
This module was created with the intention of allowing players and the DM to watch a battle again, so they can understand how the battle was played, what could have been done differently, etc. Currently, in this beta, we have some key functions to enable its use in day-to-day table play.

1 - Combat Recording and Visual Replay
Battle Replay supports both automatic and manual combat recording. You can choose to record every encounter automatically or decide at the beginning of each encounter whether it should be recorded. A replay is not a screen recording or a video. Instead, combat events including attacks, spells, healing, movement, and saving throws are stored and later reconstructed as a visual replay.
Playback does not rerun the combat, alter your current grid, or reapply effects to the tokens already present in the Scene. During playback, the Scene’s real tokens are temporarily hidden while self-contained “ghost tokens” are displayed on a darkened overlay, keeping the focus on the replay. Recorded movement, damage, healing, critical hits, and misses are displayed.
When compatible visual effects modules are used, Battle Replay can also capture spell-effect events and attempt to reproduce them during playback. Compatibility with every visual effects module cannot be guaranteed, JB2A effects through Sequencer have been tested.

2 - Synchronized Live Replay
Everyone at the table can watch the replay in sync under the GM’s control. Two viewing modes are available.
Player-safe mode prevents players from seeing combatants and related events that were recorded as hidden or invisible. GM view mode you will be able to see the full encounter from the GM’s perspective, including information that would normally remain concealed.
The GM can select the viewing mode and controls playback, while timeline commands are synchronized for all connected players.

3 - Cinematic Director
Cinematic Director makes replays more dynamic by automatically moving the camera to frame different moments of combat. It reacts to key events such as movement, attacks, critical hits, large spells, and defeats.
Three presets are currently available: Tactical, Cinematic, and Creator.

4 - Self-Contained Token Snapshots
Battle Replay records the information required to reconstruct the encounter, so the original tokens do not need to remain on the Scene. You only need to open the same Scene.
During playback, the module creates temporary ghost tokens using recorded names, textures, positions, elevation, rotation, width, height, visibility, current HP, maximum HP, conditions, and other appearance data required to reconstruct the visual state.

5 - Interactive Timeline
The interactive timeline lets you follow the encounter both on the grid and through its recorded actions. You can pause, resume, rewind, seek, step between events, and use the mouse wheel to zoom dense timelines.
Events are represented by markers and visual cards, with icons and badges events like hits, misses, critical hits, saving throws, damage values, conditions, spells, movement, and more.

6 - Combat Analytics
After combat, or at any time from the Replay Library, you can check the available metrics of each encounter.
Available metrics include total damage, healing, attacks, accuracy, critical hits, critical failures, successful saves, spells used, conditions, defeats, times at zero HP, largest hits and heals, damage streaks, average turn intervals, and actions per round.
